Professional photographer Natalie Parker recaps Imaging USA 2026 in Nashville—PPA education, expo insights and growth serving Richmond, VA clients.
From January 11–14, I attended Imaging USA 2026, the annual photography conference hosted by Professional Photographers of America (PPA), held this year at the beautiful Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville.
As a portrait, headshot, and event photographer based in Ashland, Virginia (serving the greater Richmond area), this was my first time attending Imaging — and it was an incredible investment in both my craft and my clients.
Imaging USA is one of the largest annual gatherings for professional photographers in the United States. Organized by PPA, the conference brings together thousands of photographers for:
One of the best membership perks of joining PPA is that your first Imaging conference is included — making it an incredible opportunity for photographers serious about growth.
Dozens of vendors showcased the latest in:
As a business owner of Self & Soul Photography, staying current with industry tools and innovations directly impacts the quality and experience I provide to my portrait, head shot and event clients. The expo wasn’t just about shopping, it was about learning how to refine workflow, elevate client presentation and continue delivering professional, polished imagery.
Photographing Models & Creative Sets on the Expo Floor
Another exciting feature of the expo floor was the opportunity to photograph live models on fully styled sets. Vendors created immersive environments to demonstrate lighting techniques, posing direction and creative storytelling. I stepped in to photograph several models and experiment with different angles, compositions, and lighting setups. Experiences like this sharpen your eye in real time.

It’s hands-on growth and that growth translates directly into stronger portraits, more confident head shots and beautifully documented events for my clients back home in Richmond and Ashland, Virginia.

Beyond the expo floor, Imaging USA 2026 offered outstanding educational sessions. I attended classes focused on:
As a small business owner, continued education is essential. The photography industry evolves quickly and staying ahead ensures I continue providing high-level service and consistent quality. The energy in the classrooms was powerful. Being surrounded by thousands of photographers committed to growth reinforces why professional development matters.
Conferences like Imaging USA are more than classes and gear. They’re about connection. I met photographers from across the country. Each with different specialties, stories and creative styles. We exchanged ideas, shared business insights and built new relationships. Photography can sometimes feel solitary. But events like this remind you that we are part of a vibrant, evolving professional community.

As the owner of Self & Soul Photography, my commitment has always been simple: “It’s All About You.” Attending Imaging USA 2026 wasn’t just about inspiration, it was about refinement.
The lighting techniques I studied.
The posing insights I practiced.
The business systems I explored.
All of it enhances the experience I provide to clients across the Richmond metropolitan area. Whether you’re booking:
You deserve a photographer who invests in continued growth.
Attending my first Imaging USA conference at the Gaylord Opryland Resort in Nashville was a milestone moment in my photography journey.
It reaffirmed something important: Professional growth is intentional.

I’m grateful to Professional Photographers of America for hosting such a transformative event. I’m excited to bring everything I learned back to the individuals and organizations I serve here in Ashland and Richmond, Virginia.
